Uncovering our Piping Legacy at Strathnaver Museum

Strathnaver Museum's latest project, Pibrochs and Poppies, celebrates the skills and expertise

of Mackay Country pipers. Musicians and researchers have been exploring the role of bagpipe

music particularly during the First World War. With the help of the piper’s relatives the project

is uncovering WW1 piper’s stories and bringing their music to a new audience. The project team

will be at the Durness Highland Gathering on 24th July and they would be delighted to meet

anyone with ancestors who were pipers during the First World War with a connection to Mackay

Country.
