Winter at our Highland Museums
Well that's the busy summer season come to an end folks. Thank you to all who visited one of our museums.
Many of the museums across the area close for the winter season, but not all! And some are open by arrangement. If you are planning a winter visit to the Highlands, here is some information on what the museums are up to. Nearly all are worth dropping an email before your trip as staff and/or volunteers are about and can answer questions you may have. West Highland Museum
Open Monday to Saturday 10am till 4pm (Last entry 3.30pm) Exceptions include 25th Dec, 26th Dec, Jan 1st & Jan 2nd.
The Highlander’s Museum
Winter 1st October - 31st March
10.00am - 3.15pm
Closed at weekends Dec' and Jan’
Closed completely till start of April
Glencoe Folk Museum
Closed completely over winter – reopens end of March
Museum of the Isles
Closed 1st November - Easter 2018. People can however make appointments to consult the library and archives by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
Highland Folk Museum
Closed for the winter, though visitors are welcome to use the research library or come see the collections at Am Fasgadh by appointment. Contact Rachel Chisholm on 01540-672237 or Matthew Withey on 01540-672235 for further details.
Inverness Museum and Art Gallery
Open Tuesday-Saturday 10.00-17.00 until 18 November, then Tuesday-Thursday 12.00-16.00 and Friday-Saturday 11.00-16.00 until the end of March 2018.
Applecross Heritage Centre
Closed for the season, and will reopen at Easter 2018
Tarbat Discovery Centre
Closed until Easter 2018
Winter hours are:
Tuesday 2pm - 4pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am -3pm
From November until mid March.
Gairloch Heritage Museum
Closed for the winter season
Glenfinnan Station Museum
Closed until March but they are open by arrangement. If anyone wishes to make an appointment they can usually accommodate them throughout the winter or even if people turn up on the day they will do their best to be able to show them around the museum providing there is someone about on site to do this.
